Backwashing is used to discharged the used filter media out of the filter so the grids can be re-coated with fresh DE. For step by step instruction on how to backwash CLICK HERE

Highlights:

• Sand filters and DE filters are capable of backwashing.
• Never move the multiport handle while the pump is running.
• The recommended number of backwash cycles is three.
• After backwashing a DE filter, add 3 lbs (or 3 orange scoops) of DE to the skimmer.
