What it does:
BioGuard Back Up® 2 is the preferred algae preventative for the BioGuard Care System. Weekly use of this product prevents algae before it starts. Back Up 2 is formulated to complement swimming pool sanitizers. It is a highly effective algae killer and algae preventative. The wetting agent in this product allows it to penetrate small crevices where algae are likely to form. This product provides a residual effectiveness that protects your pool against algae formation while keeping your pool sparkling clear. It protects the unattended pool from algae when you’re away.
When/Why does ALEX recommend:
- In the maintenance section if Back Up 2 is selected as the preventive algicide.
- If the quat residual is low and it is selected as the preventive algicide.
- If green algae is present or the water is swampy and it is selected as the algae treatment.
Application instructions:
Apply product with the pump running.
For maintenance: For initial application, add 32 oz. per 25,000 gallons directly into the pool. Then apply 1 oz. per 5,000 gallons weekly for maintenance. For two week maintenance, add 2 oz. per 5,000 gallons every other week. Following heavy rain showers, add an additional 1 oz. per 5,000 gallons.
For Vacation Treating: If you are away for one week or more, add 4 oz. per 5,000 gallons for every week unattended. Pour product around the edges of the shallow end if shock is being applied in the deep end.
For algae treatment: For visible algae, add 1 lb. of Burn Out Extreme per 10,000 gallons or 1 lb. of Burn Out 35 per 6,000 gallons, or 1 lb. of Smart Shock per 12,000 gallons. Follow application instructions for these products. Then add 32 oz. of Back Up per 25,000 gallons in areas of heaviest algae growth. Circulate continuously for the next 24 hours. Then brush the pool thoroughly. Do not re-enter the pool until the chlorine residual returns to 1 – 4 ppm. In cases of persistent algae, repeat brushing and product application after 2 – 4 days.
For resistant algae treatment: For treatment of resistant algae: With pump and filter running, add five pounds of BioGuard Maintain Smart Shock per 12,000 gallons of pool water. Brush any undissolved product from pool surface. Follow application directions on BioGuard Maintain Smart Shock label. Wait 15 minutes, then pour 40 fluid ounces of this product directly into pool per 25,000 gallons of water (5 ppm) in areas of heaviest algae growth. Continuously circulate pool water for the next 24 hours. Afterwards, thoroughly brush pool surfaces. Prior to re-entry, test chlorine level. Do not re-enter pool until chlorine level is between 1 – 4 ppm. Clean the filter with Strip Kwik after treatment.
