Tips to Keep Your Pool Clean

Nothing’s more inviting than a sparkling swimming pool on a hot summer day. If you have an inground pool, your family likely spends many hours playing and cooling off. Your comfort is of the utmost importance, so if things aren’t as clean as you’d like, there are several steps you can take to improve your experience. Here are our top tips to keep your pool clean this summer. If you need help, don’t hesitate to contact Caribbean Pools

Check pH Levels

A pool’s chemistry is essential to its cleanliness. Sanitizing a pool involves adding a combination of chemicals and chlorine to kill bacteria. If the pH balance is off-kilter, it can lead to algae growth, stains, cloudy water and other issues. When pH is too high, it’ll leave scum lines on the pool’s siding. These deposits indicate that your pool’s acidity needs to be lowered. Try to avoid simply adding extra chlorine. Instead, consult our maintenance experts to determine what needs to be done.

Clean the Skimmer Basket Regularly

The skimmer basket collects debris and unwanted contaminants floating along the pool’s surface. It’s located to the side, and all you need to do is remove the basket and dispose of the contents. It’s an easy way to prevent unwanted debris from floating back out into your pool and to ensure the skimmer basket is working optimally at all times.

Avoid Shocking the Pool Too Frequently

One of the most basic things you can do to remove bacteria, dirt and chloramines from your pool’s water is through shocking. Shocking, which involves adding chemicals to raise the free chlorine levels, is an important process. However, it isn’t something you need to do on a regular basis. You may think that adding more shock would be helpful, it can lead to bigger problems and actually compromise your pool’s cleanliness. If this happens, you’ll need to wait for your pool to oxidize, which should get rid of the cloudiness.

Manually Clean and Vacuum Regularly

Inground pools are designed to be self-maintaining to a certain degree. There are some things that are best handled by us. Vacuuming and brushing are steps you should do daily. After adding chemicals, brushing helps to disperse them so they spread and dissolve throughout the water. Likewise, vacuuming a pool helps to remove dirt and other debris. Vacuuming mitigates algae growth and helps the chemicals work more efficiently. Getting your hands on the right pool supplies is key, so be sure to stop by our storeroom to explore our products.

Examine the Salt Cell

A common cause of a dirty pool lies in the salt cell, which generates chlorine and disperses it into the pool. Examine the salt cell to check for chemical buildup, which can stop it from functioning properly. If the problem seems to complex to handle alone, call our team and we’ll fix it right away.
