When Do I Need to Replace My Pool Liner?

Chemicals and constant sunshine can cause some fading of your inground pool’s liner, but what are the signs that you need to actually replace your liner? Typically, inground pool liners last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, but many factors can affect the length of its life, such as location and water maintenance.

Check out these signs that you should not ignore:

Cracks and tears: Vinyl liners will break down and become brittle over time with the constant exposure to the sun’s rays and the chemicals that keep your pool water clear and comfortable. If you do notice a crack or tear, it may be possible to patch. To see if there is a water leak from the damage, watch your watch level to see if it drops more than an inch. Our pool experts should review the situation quickly if you are concerned about a leak or crack in your liner. Among our services are pool leak detection through pool diving or pressure testing.

Wrinkles or slips: Vinyl will also lose its plasticity and elasticity over time and submersion in pool water. Signs of the status of your liner can be noticeable areas of slipping out of the track or loose fittings around your pool’s jets or skimmer.

Stains and loss of pattern: As your liner fades, it just does not look the same. It may cause your whole pool to look old and worn out. Renovating your pool may be the next step as a pool owner. You may also notice rust stains or build up of algae. The crew at Caribbean Pools & Spas can help with a vinyl-lined inground pool renovation. We can help you decide if it is worth investing in updating your pool or if a new pool installation makes more sense.

Obvious leaks: Leaking water can cause seeping water to actually corrode your pool’s walls and wash away any sand – a recipe for dangerous sinkholes.
