Best Summer Books to Read by the Pool

If your idea of an ideal summer afternoon is hanging out poolside with a cool drink and a good book, then check out what we have for you! We have compiled books of all genres to keep you entertained all summer long.

“That Summer” by Jennifer Weiner – This novel explores friendship and resiliency with a twist of humor. Daisy Shoemaker is bored with her life and gets caught up in a new friendship after receiving emails mistakenly – or possibly on purpose?

“The Last Thing He Told Me” by Laura Dave – A read for those who enjoy mystery and intrigue in their beach reads, this novel follows Hannah Hall and her step-daughter on a journey to discover what her husband, Owen Michaels, was really into before he disappears.

“The Guncle” by Steven Rowley – A read for those who enjoy a heart-warming tale about family, patience and love. Uncle Patrick has to take on being a full-time guardian to his niece and nephew after a tragedy and navigate this new role.

“Malibu Rising” by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Siblings are tied to a secret that occurred during an end-of-summer party in 1983 in Malibu. The story revisits the event through flashbacks and explores how their lives were changed forever.

“Beach Read” by Emily Henry – The title fits this novel as it should be on your summer poolside reading list. Two writers who only write within their comfort zones of happy endings on one side and tragic endings on the other connect as neighbors. They decide to switch writing styles in this fun and romantic read.

“The Mother-in-Law” by Sally Hepworth – A mystery that takes on emotions and family dynamics without getting too dark for a summer story. It takes twists and turns as Lucy finds out what happened in the past after her mother-in-law dies, at first what is thought to be suicide.

“The Most Fun We Ever Had” by Claire Lombardo – This tale looks at a multigenerational family in Chicago and all of the drama that comes with marriage and children. The book goes back to the marriage of Marily Connelly and David Sorenson in the 1970s to their current lives with four adult daughters.

“Olive Kitteridge” by Elizabeth Strout – A series of short stories together in one book that surrounds the main character and retired school teacher, Olivia. Set in Maine, readers learn all about Olivia through characters that are sprinkled throughout the stories.

“28 Summers” by Elin Hilderbrand – One Labor Day weekend turns into 28 years of friendship for Mallory and Jake who continue to meet up no matter their relationship status with others.
